Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior representative stated the incident made him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
